Yoga for Stress

I’m back in Blog World. I was working on my yoga teacher studies these past months. Now I am done. I am excited to share my knowledge.

Stress is something that I know well. I hate that I know it, but I do. I have to accept that this is my personality. I get things done quickly and well, but on the other hand, I get too wound up at times. That’s when yoga comes in.

Yoga practice looks very different depending on your goals. You can focus on calorie burning and weight loss thru intense muscle work. You can also do a calm, restorative yoga practice centered around stretching and breath work. You can also take elements from both.

Before you step on your yoga mat, take a mental body scan. What do you need today – calming down or boosting your energy?

Here is a flow that calms you:

Mountain pose – standing forward bend – low lunges with both legs – warrior 1 and 2 – tree pose – seated forward bend – puppy pose

Here is a flow that stimulates your energy:

Chair pose – twisted chair pose – plank – side plank – triangle pose – half moon moon pose – warrior 1 and 2

Here is a link to an awesome stress relieving yoga class.

Power Yoga Teacher

I’m making my dream come true. I started my power yoga teacher training this week. I’ll be a certified yoga teacher thru Aura Wellness, a well-reputated yoga teacher training school in Massachusetts, USA. I’ve trained and taught ballet. I’ve trained and taught aerobics in its many forms, e.g. Les Mills, fatburn and zumba. I’ve trained and taught power yoga. And now I will make it official.

I will continue my main business which is teaching English. I love it and wouldn’t want to change that by all means. Alongside, there will be an opportunity to learn power yoga with me. I will offer private lessons as well as group lessons. I’m excited to be putting my entire passion and capacity to good use. I have the intellectual side to me. And then there’s the yoga girl, the dancer and the eternal “mover of my body”.

New season and a new opening. My gratitude towards life is as large as the ocean.

Happy Place Class Starts This Week

My Facebook group Happy Place – Fitness Community in English in Quebec City is well on its way. There are 30 members now and we are getting to know each other. I started the group after joining another group earlier in the summer, created by Mary Ann and located in Seattle. I wanted to have something local. A chance to get together from time to time in real life.

The anchor of my group is the workout class that I am teaching on Saturdays. This year it will be a mix of zumba and power yoga. We will be doing half an hour of each. There will also be some other cutting-edge fitness techniques thrown in like Pilates and Barre in the course of the year. I’m excited about sharing my fitness knowhow. I used to teach aerobics and work as a personal trainer at a gym so this is in a way going back to my old love.

Creating a group like this can give the founder and the participants a great boost. You make connections with likeminded people and they can pull you higher. We are all on this journey together. No one has the ultimate answers, nor is everyone the same. We have to figure out what exercise routines and eating habits fit our unique bodies and lifestyles. Learning from other’s experiences can provide precious inspiration.
