My little heart definitely says yes to spring. I ditched my winter jacket, and it felt like I had shed ten pounds. Here is an outfit for going out. The red accents give me the chic touch I’m always looking for. We saw two rock bands in concert, Sabaton and Nightwish. What a magical night. As we strolled a bit post show in the nightly downtown, I bathed in contentment.
Look at the cutie that spent some time with us as his parents were under the Caribbean sun. Salto would follow me wherever I went. When clients came, he’d sit next to them, and learn English, too.
Now my heart is jumping of joy since a dear friend from NYC is coming over for a few weeks. I get to have my “soul sister” over for a while and we’ll have time to indulge in Starbucks, red wine, girl talk and plans that make dreams come reality.
In some cases friends become closer than your siblings. Your heart chooses. Affinities are formed. Life is shared.
I believe in letting your journey go as it must. I trust in not forcing relationships. People find time for you if you truly count. That is a sweet and clarifying thought.
I know that today my sister is about to fly over – and I heart that!
My sis and I wanted to do some vintage shopping in midtown Manhattan. We found a huge flea market a couple of blocks west from Bryant Park. I enjoyed rummaging thru the ample amount of glam accessories.
My style relies very heavily on accessorizing. Lots of people think I have a huge wardrobe – when in reality I operate with a very limited selection. I get rid of – mostly donate to the local charitable organization – anything that I haven’t worn in two years tops. I need my closet to be clear and desire-provoking. I always get excited about a new-seeming piece of clothing. The typical girl problem – nothing to wear and not enough space where to put them frocks – isn’t my Achilles’ heel. (Heels do I though love…)
I like fiddling with skirts like these – but in reality I know I’d never wear them. I only go for mini skirts. I gave a maxi dress a go a while ago. I really did not wear that puppy more than twice.
NYC is an excellent place to stumble upon jewels like these. The passage of many people ends up in treasures from across the globe. I have a thing for Cameo brooches. I have a ring that I inherited from my late French mom-in-law.
What’s fun is collecting the pieces that make your own style from the different places that you pass thru. The heart-shaped necklace I’m sporting in this outfit was a find from London. Whenever I wear it, it makes me think of my trip there one early spring.
Right now I’m looking at a sweetly low-key end of the week. There’s a gospel concert a friend of mine invited me to. The hubs and I will also take a walk in the woods and then go for some 3-dollar all-you-can-eat maple taffy at a sugar shack located in the forest, the location of which a client revealed to me.
Spring is the perfect time to gather up the bits and pieces of your life, sharpen up your style and sit down at a coffee shop and make some exciting plans. I’m looking at more jogging outdoors, more fruit and veggie cooking experiments – oatmeal bakes and veggie stir fries- and more time with friends, either visiting, on trips or just hanging out on terraces.
I love New York City. I love pink. I love Starbucks coffee. Life’s essentials, huh. I also love latino music, jogging, modern art museums, the Atlantic Ocean and mini skirts. Traveling is where I decide to invest. I think it’s awesome living close to New York. The Big Apple gives me what Paris used to. That metropolis vibe which is sweet and challenging at the same time. It’s a bit of a battle for your space, yet when you do make it, do find your place in the big mess, it feels even sweeter.
New York and Paris are largely a state of mind. That feeling of excitement on daily basis. Looking up and around and saying to yourself “am I lucky to be here right now.” That very sentiment is something that you can bring to your life wherever you are. First, let’s think. What is it about NYC that entices me? The cafes that keep looking for new creations, artsy things happening here and there, little affordable clothing stores on the corner of Canal Street and Broadway and cute parks where to pause and read a magazine or to journal.
I have all of those around me. Three Starbucks coffee shops are within 15 minutes from my condo. Two Second Cups and one Tim Hortons. There are also two gourmet coffee shops that I know of nearby – visiting them is on my new year’s to do list. The art scene in Quebec City differs a bit from New York City, nevertheless, there are lots of galleries to visit. And to do more things myself. Isn’t it sweeter to be a doer versus a spectator? As for clothing stores, I have found Limite and Bedo, also Dynamite, Sirens and of course the good ol’ H&M. There are plenty of parks in my neighborhood. My favorite is my Central Park.
This is what life is about. Finding sweetness in your life where you are, and then being inspired by your travels. Carrying that something special with you so that it can keep shining when the situation is long gone.
The Empire State of Mind…
Thanksgiving is around the corner. I like this holiday. It’s so American. Thanking for making it to the other side of the Atlantic. Leaving the old behind and making something new of your life. I love my country – the U.S. I hold the American spirit and history close to my heart. This is the land of opportunity. Doors are open for you to make of yourself whatever you desire. I strive on doing my best everyday. In my case, it is surely paying off. Two and some years in business, and I’m fully employed. Doing what I love – spending my days discussing in English, encouraging people and being there “just for them”.
This season is full of delicious impulses to senses. Smells and visual effects. Fashion picks up these cues. Fall and winter trends throw us with black in many forms. At the moment, I find it fun dressing in black from head to toe.
In this outfit I wanted to combine the chicness of faux leather – pants and jacket, with the “Holy Chic” spiced up black sweater. There are the elements that cherish – chic and a dash of shock. Color accents, the red collar peeking out and my purple gloves also make the ensemble more feisty.
When you want to feel happier in your life, think of all the things that you now have and you are grateful for. It is super simple yet when you really get into it, when you’re really able to do so, it will open a whole new world, right where you are. That extra free hour from working will feel super sweet. The old route to the office will appear so unique, you are there to see it today. Jillian Michaels has said that most people don’t show up in their own lives. I want to be present in mine. Nothing is perfect, but perfect is boring. Real life has all the flavors – we go thru lots of stuff and that’s when we shout out “Holy Chic – we rock, after all!”
As of late, a lot of people have told me they don’t like November. Last night I took a stroll in the nightly city – and I loved every moment of it. Seems like now I’ve truly accepted the presence of fall. Hot drinks taste better and candle light soothes even more. Mellowing down feels like the thing to do.
I’m actually out of candles so a trip to Bath and Body Works is on my to-do list. I love caramel-y, chocolate-y and spiced apple scents. Some delish body lotion will find its way into my basket, too. In creams I go for fruity, lightly spiced smells. They complement my vanilla deodorant and Guerlain’s Insolence or Lolita Lempicka perfumes. Looking at the big picture in scent world, too, is a guarantee for a stylish result.
I’ve been jogging as usual. I just bundle up more. I sport my Miami bought, Granny Smith apple green colored sweatpants and hot pink sneakers. I listen to Enrique Iglesias’ greatest hits. I take in the late evening urban vibes. My jogs happen quite late since I get done with work late. Once the last client has left, I get changed and head out.
We had two Halloween parties to attend. I made sure I danced both nights away. At the first one I found myself pretty much able to pilot the music – so of course I adored the selection of latino and dance. The party and friend get-togethers will be continuing for some weeks to come. I find that to be the perfect fall time booster.
I’m into leggings big time at the moment. They are the second best body – and spirit – booster after mini skirts. These beige leggings are so close to skin color that a friend of mine said that from afar it looked like I wasn’t wearing any pants. Maybe that’s why one morning when hurrying to catch the bus some guy waved hi and actually came out from his garage to the street to see as I ran down the sidewalk.
When you want to look and feel your best, choosing clothing that accentuates your body’s strong points is the thing to do. I spend a lot of time keeping my figure in shape – first because I feel great when I move my body, second because working out makes me feel better in it. I want to enjoy my body in dressing up the way that I feel suits me the best. I like shape-showing things. I cherish glamour touched accessories. I like unique color combinations.
I found this bracelet on my shopping street at a place called Bizou. I had wanted something Indian or Moroccan like – and there it was. As a teacher, I enjoy pieces that give my work the extra touch. When my students see my hand write on the whiteboard, they’ll also see some sparkles now.
