I’ll also have my lil’ mermaid moments since I’ll develop a routine going to the local swimming pool. Thirdly, a downtown Paris American church entices me. I’ve been back at home for a week now. It has felt so good. In fact it amazes me how well and planted I now feel in Paris. I have been calling this place home for seven years and a year after another things just get more and more familiar. Right from the arrival I rediscover the re-comforting sounds and smells. I find my good old walking routes and beloved scenery. How well can one feel in a place not initially yours!

I chose Paris, and later Paris chose me. The beginning was a typical “lost in a metropolis” type of a story. I looked for acknowledgment. I wanted people to notice me and wonder about my origins. In cosmopolitan surroundings, new-comers are nothing of specialty, nor novelty. So I dropped the idea and I decided to adjust.

Paris has made me more fashion conscious. Stylish apparel and chic inspirations are everywhere in this city. You can find millions of ways to express your inner with the outer. Styles and personal looks walk around as much as you have the stamina to people-watch. This all is exiting. At the same time, I have striven to protect my love for simple and life’s fundamental things – like faith and love of other people. Living a life of small luxuries, being kind to the person next to me… and taking in all the beauty right where I am.

Getting Going Again

What a wonderful feeling to be alive! What made me, all of a sudden, conscious of this? I’d been having occasional, but nevertheless quite nasty back pains and I finally got some help. Things are not perfect yet, but even a little break is already enough to get me hoppin’.

Health is so crucial. With it we have everything, and yet it is so easily forgotten. Biting life to the bone is not possible if the physical being doesn’t follow. I decided to be yet more careful about taking care of my earthly dwelling.

With some in-laws visiting, my weekend was family-oriented. Casual strolling around Paris. It feels good to be ’round and about’ my city. I can never get enough. My desires orient towards the Luxembourg Gardens and the Seine riverbanks. Why change good ol’ favorites if they still procure pleasure?

I’d also like to get a glimpse of the current fashion scene. For fun and inspiration. My latest purchase was black capri height lace leggings. Now I’m wondering if they are sober enough to go to work. Follies are fun, but in due place and time, right? A classy gal hasÂ a touch for these kinds of nuances.

I’m Still Standing

Between the ten-day getaway with my dear hubby up North – yep, I hit Finland again – and some blog bugs, I unfortunately haven’tÂ been able to write sooner. You dear blogland buddies have, nevertheless, been on my mind. I also recently learned that many “real friend” folks pop in on my world. How nice, a little ‘yey’ here to you too! So now I’m back, as renewed and refreshed as ever. Ready to take on some new wondrous adventures, for the near future mostly here on the beautiful French soil.

My latest Finnish escape showed me many things. That the people I love from forever long are sure up there, and will always be, but that life does also go on and that my heart has and is shifting more and more towards the surroundings where I now unfold my daily life. The negative yearning is gone. I now love my country of childhood and youth with a more distanced, yet of course somewhat forever binding love.

If you only see your old friends once to three times a year, the key is in accepting the way we each are evolving in life. No one stays the same. Some have kids, others move to faraway places, some change companions, others just haircuts – all the same, things that define us are in constant move. If our lifestyles are no longer identical, there pretty much always is a question – whether pronounced aloud or not – to be answered: do we still have what it takes to see eye to eye? Can I put myself in the other person’s shoes and for a moment try to understand and appreciate the way they have chosen to develop their current life?

Today I feel very rooted in Paris. It is such a sweet sentiment. To be able to say to yourself “this is where I am supposed to be right now”. It sometimes takes time to arrive at this poised place, and the feeling might very well one day be gone again, but as of this wake of the day, I savor, all in carrying my loved ones preciously in my heart.

The symbol is strong. So pure in color. So simple, thus timeless. That must be why tourists keep on photographing the London underground logo – and locals keep shuddering their heads. But deep down, I’m sure they must be feeling a hint of proudness. I mean, I would. This smart piece of color assemblage is a due reason for a lil’ ego trip.

Subways are what I would call bitter-sweet experiences. In a way, I love their eclectic nature. You come across so many folks. So many lives run through your very eyes. Different destinies, more or less successful. How stimulating it is to encounter such a mass of co-citizens? Co-travelers of life. On the same path, in quest for happiness. And yet, it can be overwhelming too.

Subways are an integral part of big city life. They concretize a lot of the metropolitan conduct. It is like having endless, titillating opportunities to do things, to go out or to catch up on the latest trends or shows – bite life to the bone.Ã‚ And yet, sometimes feeling just like a little girl who would only wants to stay home, under the warn down covers, away from the bad world, dipping pink marshmallows into creamy soft hot cocoa. Dreaming about the perfect world where we all would live safely and get along.

Supposedly there’s time for everything. Time to explore and time to retreat. Taking every drop of life as it comes, savoring its unique aroma. I’m hoping that this weekend has brought you comfort wherever you may journey.
