About Life in Quebec City

Quebec City is where I have lived for four years now. Today I can’t quite pinpoint why I came here. I guess I was somewhat bored with my Parisian life. Ten years there had given me enough time to roam thru the city, and be left wanting for something else.

I knew very little about Canada prior to moving here. As most Americans, I thought it was English speaking all around. A little before our departure I understood that there also was a French speaking minority, and I figured it’d be about half of the population in the province of Quebec. Wrong! In Quebec City, upon arrival, I realized that this is America but in French. Everything is the same but with careful attention to saying it in French. Well, not everyone though.

So, Quebec City is a place of extremes. There are folks that are the sweetest. Very generous and easy going. Then you hear about stubborn separatist opinions, yet I’ve never met anyone like that face to face, peeps that think they are unique. Since I also like my native language, I live my life as if I were back home America, practically I am. Everywhere I go I spread the kind odor of English, the blonde gal that speaks that way, and I like my special image.

About Life in Quebec City

Quebec City is the safest place I can name you on the American Continent. People care about you. You can leave your stuff when you go order your Starbucks. Folks smile and wish you a good day. Baristas remember your order “the usual grande Americano, right?’ and the general vibe is middle class kind and calm.

About Life in Quebec City

I do catch myself dreaming about New York, Boston or Miami but… Then I have to ask myself “what is it that I long for from those places?” Here I am free to venture out wherever whenever my little heart desires. No limits, no fears. Social scene here is pretty much up to me. Recently I realized that I’ve started enjoying more wine nights with friends compared to huge night clubs. There is only one art museum in the city. As an artist myself, deep down it is more rewarding to do my own stuff versus that of spectating others.

About Life in Quebec City

As for now my business is thriving here and my downtown condo provides me with a comfy hiding place where to advance on the journey of life. I never ever imagined finding myself in Quebec City but hey now that I am “I’ll live American the French way for a while longer”.
