La mode à la sailor… fashion enkindled by marine looks, stripes and sea breeze blues. They blow at us every year. It is like a reassuring staple and we feel fed up, disgusted, thrilled or uplifted. Then cave in more or less. I was not a big fan, but after roaming thru the exquisite exhibition “Sailor Chic in Paris” by the Paris Marine Museum, I started seeing the stripey bolt from a more clement an angle.
The undoubted all time emblem of navy apparel is Jean-Paul Gauthier. He promoted the texture, and clothed himself in it especially during the golden years of shoulder-padded 1980s. Gauthier’s fashion shows would just overflow marine inclinations.
Chanel twisted the trend according to the fashion house’s sophisticated looks – high rise pleated dress pants and golden details – chains at the waistline, shiny necklaces and magnificent evening gowns with black and white navy inspired lacing. All to enchant your days and nights at the hot and humid Saint Tropez seaside…
The fashion Bible Vogue does a marine marinated coverage every year. It was fun flipping thru the pages and seeing how different eras have taken upon the sailor afflatus.
So what am I waiting for… vacation in three days… haul up the sails and off to the gentle wind!

Enjoy your holidays! I spent two weeks in Finnish archipelago practising yoga and meeting my yoga friends around the world. After that I went to Istanbul for one week. Istanbul was amazing. I really enjoyed the mixture of East and West. I gotta go back there some day.
Audrey’s idea about the old movie was great. I am so going to rent one, when the sunny days in Finland will be over. Before that I will be outside as much as possible. I am absolutely summer girl, even my birthday is during summer.
Just waiting to hear about your summer holiday…

Audrey – Vacation winds were very good and uplifting on me… Plenty of beautiful experiences and images to intellectually munch upon during the up-coming year. I’ll surely be writing more on these…
Spark – Yoga in the Finnish archipelago sounds like such an enticing thought. And people from all over the globe. Your summer has been full of treats. Go summer gal!

it’s neat to see fashion in museums. These pieces can be such works of art.
It’s a shame though that you can’t touch the fabric or marvel at the workmanship closer. I’m sure the handiwork is amazing.

Kitty – You are right, I’d like to feel the fabrics too… get hand on, but oh well. Yesterday I visited an exhibition about ladies war-time fashion in the 1940′s Paris. Very instructive!
